Pa gets “C” ranking for LGBTQ+ Global Rights

Airdate: June 26, 2024

According to the F&M Global Barometers team, Pennsylvania received a “C” in human rights issues for the LGBTQ+ Community.

Dr. Susan Dicklitch-Nelson, professor with Franklin & Marshall College, and Principal Investigator of the team, and Project Manager Erin Hallenbeck, sat down with The Sparks Asia Tabb to share the results.

The F&M Barometers measures the human rights protecting the LGBTQ+ community in the United States and 204 countries around the world.

“Well with the perception index, we found in Pennsylvania overall it scored a C. It’s not an F, but it’s a C. In the Susquehanna Valley in particular, we scored a little bit better than Pennsylvania overall in the United States. It was a C, but again, Pennsylvania was doing better than the United States overall, “said Dr. Dicklitch-Nelson.

When asked what else stood out in the research, Dr. Dicklitch-Nelson said, “It became clear to us that this is just not in Pennsylvania, but globally, that trans women and trans men felt less safe, felt more fearful of violence, than some of the other groups.”
