The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, 866-366-3723, uses a risk-based inspection reporting process for restaurants and other food handlers.

Dunkin Donuts, 2905 E. Prospect Rd. York, April 19. Pass. Several open employee beverage containers (screw capped variety) were observed in baking area, a food preparation area. Food employees observed in customer service area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as beard covers. Food utensils in all beverage preparation areas observed stored in a container of water which is not maintained at 135°F. This is a repeat violation. In-use utensils may be safely stored in HOT water maintained at 135°F or above during intermittent use because microbial growth is controlled at such temperatures. In use food utensils MAY NOT be stored in water that is not maintained at 135°F or hotter between uses due to the possibility for microbial growth at room temperature water. Plastic/silicone protective sheeting on interior surfaces of ovens is peeling and no longer fully adhered to oven surfaces. Upper interior of microwave, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – Water supply to hand sink located in the oven area has been turned off due to leaking waste water pipe. Women’s toilet room has been placed out of service due to toilet flush mechanism broken not in good repair.

Hawk Gunning Club, 2486 Pleasant View Dr. York, April 18. Pass. Food employees observed in kitchen area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as beard covers. Corrected. Food utensils in cooks line area observed stored in a container of water which is not maintained at 135°F. Corrected. Food utensils observed stored on unclean surfaces and where exposed to possible contamination. Corrected. Vacuum packed salmon portions are not removed from package prior to thawing per manufacturers use instruction. Corrected. Gun style soda dispensers located in the dining area service bar, food contact surfaces, were observed to have food residue and were not clean to sight and touch. Corrected. Wall, floor and fixtures behind cooks line equipment are not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil.

Dover Area Middle School, 46 W. Canal St. Dover, April 17. Pass. Severely dented (2 cans pinto beans) canned items observed in dry storage area and intended for use in the food facility. Corrected. Observed ceiling in far back dry storage area with peeling paint and damaged drywall. Observed flooring in (big) walk-in freezer with loose tiles.

Hoagie and Pizza Box Inc., 21 N. Main St. Dover, April 17. Pass. Food Employee observed donning single use gloves without a prior hand wash. Corrected. Discussed with employee that every time gloves are put on a handwashing must occur. Bread stored in plastic tote that is not food grade with no food grade liner. Facility has a food Certified employee but was not on duty at time of inspection. Food Certified employee must be on duty during all hours of operation.

Menges Mills Market LLC, 5995 Colonial Valley Rd. Spring Grove, April 17. Pass. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food – macaroni salad, potato salad, coleslaw, lunch meats and cheeses located in the deli case, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Corrected.

Discussed the importance of washing hands prior to donning gloves. Food employee observed in prep area, wearing watch on arms. Front door was propped open with no outer covering to protect from birds, bugs or other animals entering facility. Corrected. Spray bottles of chemicals stored in the bath room with no label or incorrect label. Corrected.

Laser Alleys, 3905 E. Market St. York, April 16. Pass. Spray bottle of water used as food ingredient in the grill area, is not labeled with the common name of the food. Sponges observed in the bar area being used to clean food contact surfaces. Can opener cutting blade is rusted and damaged. Observed soda gun holster, in bar area, with an accumulation brown slime and syrup residue on non-food contact surfaces.

Food utensils in sub preparation area observed stored in a container of water which is not maintained at 135°F. Cleaned and sanitized utensils located in rear kitchen area, are stored with food contact surfaces/food or lip area exposed to hand contact when retrieved by food employees. Mops are not being hung to air dry.

Giant Food #6310, 830 N. U.S. 15, Dillsburg, April 15. Pass. Observed one pack of PB cupcakes in the bakery walk-in freezer uncovered and not protected. Donut Prep area in need of deep cleaning excessive food debris under and on top of unit. Observed stored clean utensils in the fry area on the bottom shelf of prep table stored in plastic container with excessive debris. Corrected. Outside dumpster area and grease recycle area are in need of cleaning grease and trash accumulation on top of and around the area. In the Deli area on the wall by oven observed 15 or more small flies, facility does have pest control program. In the Bakery area small handheld vacuum was observed stored on the butcher block counter top which is a food contact surface. Corrected. Flooring throughout the department areas (Bakery, Deli, kitchen and Produce) with accumulation of build-up around the floor wall junction area and in need of cleaning. In the warehouse are rock salt observed stored above ICE WATER and salt pellets stored next to drink cups for Starbucks. Corrected.

Handwashing sink in back prep area being used for another purpose as evidence of oil and grease in basin. Sink was cleaned.
