Enck’s Plus Catering, 244 Granite Run Drive, Lancaster, April 12. Pass. Food employee observed in the front service area wearing bracelet/watch on arms. An employee’s open beverage container was observed next to the buffalo chopper in the front service area. Food employees observed in back food preparation area and the dishwashing area not wearing proper hair restraints such as nets, hats or beard covers. Observed two lids for covering the sandwich preparation bar, stored on the floor. Observed old food residue on the inner rim of the slicer and on the blade of the buffalo chopper.

Five Guys Burgers And Fries No. 0609, 844 E. Main St., Ephrata, April 12. Pass. Three-bay sink observed with oily residue and not cleaned before use and frequently throughout the day. Assorted containers on drying shelf had food residue and were not clean to sight and touch; removed for cleaning.

Hubley Social Club, 410 Ice Ave., Lancaster, complaint, April 12. Fail. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. Observed black residue in ice machine. Non-food contact surfaces throughout not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Observed two dead mice in kitchen area. Food facility inspection indicates evidence of rodent activity in kitchen and food prep areas, but facility does have a pest control program.

Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in refrigerator and freezer. Slicer, a food contact surface, had old food residue and was not clean to sight and touch.

City Deli, 202 E. King St., Lancaster, follow-up, April 10. Fail. Observed employee making personal food on top of rolls of paper, stored on the floor. Observed deli meat stored in plastic grocery bags. Clean table edge near bain-marie. Wall behind slicer not clean. The hand-wash sink in the food prep area was blocked and not accessible at all times for employee use. Mops were not being hung to air-dry.

Manual warewashing equipment observed with buildup of filth and food residue and not cleaned before use or frequently throughout the day. Nonfood contact surfaces drying racks not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Observed dead gnats in reach-in refrigerator unit.

Plaza Azteca Mexican Restaurant, 1700 Fruitville Pike, Suite L, Lancaster, follow-up, April 10. Pass. Observed vents in food prep area with an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, debris on nonfood contact surfaces. Nonfood contact surfaces — exterior of beverage dispenser in the food prep area and bar area, interior of bain-marie by front drink station, fan above rear exit door — are not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Observed plates being stored not inverted, creating the potential for cross contamination. Rear delivery door has a gap and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents and other animals.

Andromeda, 158 S. Queen St., Lancaster, follow-up, April 9. Fail. Observed toxic chemicals stored next to packaged food. Shelves need to be decluttered and cleaned throughout entire store area. An area should be designated for personal item storage. Observed expired baby formula for sale to the public. Rusty shelves in refrigeration units should be replaced. Shelves in reach-in refrigeration units should be cleaned. Dusty vents in rear storage room should be cleaned. Food facility inspection indicates evidence of rodents and insect activity in store area, but facility does have a pest control program.

Arthur’s at Eden Resort, 222 Eden Road, Lancaster, April 9. Pass. Employees’ open beverage containers were observed on a food preparation table at the end of the cook line, and two on a table behind the mechanical dishwasher. Food employees observed in the food preparation area not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats or beard covers. Raw salmon observed stored on top of barbecue sauce in the walk-in cooler. Observed a black residue up inside both ice makers. Observed old food residue inside the juice wedger and the inner rim of the slicer. Paper towel dispenser empty at the hand-wash sink in the back near the exit door. Food employee personal belongings, cellphones and medications observed on a table in the food preparation area, although lockers are provided.

The person in charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this noncompliant inspection. Food employee observed in the back food preparation area preparing food and not wearing proper hair restraint, such as net or hat; repeat violation, April 6, 2023, and Oct. 3, 2023. Observed a metal cup without a handle, rather than a scoop, being stored in the rice in the walk-in-freezer. Observed the ice scoops being stored on top of the ice maker, an area that is not clean and sanitized; repeat violation, Oct. 3, 2023. Observed old food residue on the can-opener blade. Observed a copious amount of static dust on both ceiling vents and black static dust covering the ceiling fan blades. Observed a gross amount of old food debris, filth, and other organic matter at the floor/wall juncture in the entire food preparation area. Observed single-service, single-use articles (plasticware) stored beneath a table directly on the floor, and not 6 inches above the floor. The hand-wash sink in the back was blocked by a can of dirty rags and a tote and not accessible at all times for employee use. Scoops observed in the hand-wash sink in the back, indicating uses other than hand-washing; repeat violation, April 6, 2023. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair: observed water leaking profusely at the spigot of the food preparation sink in the front. The back door to the outside of the facility was wide open, allowing flies and other insects to enter. Was informed by the manager the air-conditioner was not operating. Paper towel dispenser empty at the hand-wash sink in the back area; repeat violation, April 6, 2023, and Oct. 3, 2023. Observed boxes of soap detergent stored on a shelf above single service items (bowls) in the back storage area; repeat violation, Oct. 3, 2023.

Sumo Sushi & Steakhouse, 2846 W. Main St., Morgantown, April 8. Pass. Frozen chicken was not defrosted in a manner to maintain a temperature below 41 F; voluntarily discarded. Assorted containers on drying shelf were observed to have food residue and were not clean to sight and touch. Removed for cleaning.
