The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, 866-366-3723, uses a risk-based inspection reporting process for restaurants and other food handlers.

Barn at Paradise Station, 312 Paradise Lane, Ronks, opening, March 29. Pass. Food facility has a reminder statement on the menu for foods that are/or could be served raw or undercooked to the consumer; however, does not clearly disclose to which foods the reminder statement applies. Observed unisex toilet room not provided with a covered waste receptacle for sanitary napkins. Observed mops not being hung to air-dry; corrected.

Dottie’s Snack Bar, 425 W. Fourth St., Quarryville, opening, March 29. Pass. Observed spigot over three-compartment sink to be leaking at spout. Observed an insect control device located in food production area with potential to contaminate food, equipment, and/or utensils; corrected. Observed mops not being hung to air-dry.

New Darshan International Grocery, 1724 Columbia Ave., Lancaster, March 29. Pass. Observed raw shell eggs stored above mushrooms and peppers in the reach-in cooler.

Rohrestown LC LLC DBA Little Caesars Pizza, 137 Rohrerstown Road, Lancaster, change of owner, March 29. Pass. Food employee observed preparing food and wearing a bracelet. Food employees observed preparing food not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats or beard covers. Facility does not have written procedures for employees to follow when responding to an event involving vomitus or fecal matter discharge onto surfaces within the facility. Old food residue observed on the metal lids used to cover mozzarella cheese. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair: observed water leaking at the drainpipe of the hand-wash sink in the front and water leaking profusely from the faucet of the three-compartment sink. No sign or poster posted at the hand-wash sink in the front area to remind food employees to wash their hands. Observed an extreme amount of clutter in the spare restroom. Old equipment, wooden panels and shelving that need to be removed. Observed two working containers of cleaner stored on a shelf next to the dough scale and one hanging from the shelf above clean equipment.

CTown Mini Market, 451 E. King St., Lancaster, follow-up, March 28. Fail. The food facility operator shall be the person in charge or shall designate a person in charge and shall ensure that a person in charge is present at the food facility during all hours of operation. Remove personal beverage container from bain-marie. Moldy cheese observed in the reach-in refrigeration unit. Store eggs on bottom shelf below prepared ready-to-eat food. Chicken in self-service hot hold unit held at 89 F; chicken discarded. Cakes requiring refrigeration were observed held at 63 F in the self-serve cold unit, rather than 41 F or below as required. Commercially processed, ready-to-eat food, located in the bain-marie and held more than 48 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Date and label all food in deli case. Temperature measuring devices in self-serve unit not functioning properly. Shelving units, oven and pan holding panini press pan were not clean to sight and touch. The hand-wash sink in the deli area was blocked by buckets and fire extinguishers and not accessible at all times for employee use. Determine leak above ceiling in rear delivery area. Replace soiled ceiling tiles.

Flik International, 2425 New Holland Pike, Lancaster, complaint, March 28. Pass. No violations.

Hampton Inn, 545 Greenfield Road, Lancaster, March 28. Pass. Facility has test strips; however, they are faded and expired. Observed single-service, single-use articles (plasticware) stored in the kitchen directly on the floor, and not 6 inches above the floor. The hand-wash sink in the kitchen was blocked by boxes of plasticware and not accessible at all times for employee use.

Lancaster BBQ Supply, 1920A Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, opening, March 28. Pass. Observed accumulation of ice build up on freezer edge. Observed standing water on bottom of two-door reach-in cooler and ice buildup on refrigerator coils. Observed unisex bathroom is not provided with a covered waste receptacle for sanitary napkins.

Lori’s Lattes, mobile food facility Type 3, 29 Wyndmere Way, Willow Street, opening, March 28. Pass. No violations.

Schaeffer Elementary School, 875 Pleasure Road, Lancaster, March 28. Pass. No violations.

Starbucks, 525 Greenfield Road, Lancaster, March 28. Pass. An irreversible registering thermometer or thermal labels are not available to monitor the rinse temperature of the high-temp mechanical dishwasher.

Town Clock Cheese, 5381 Bridge St., Gap, March 28. Pass. Prepackaged pretzels are not labeled to clearly indicate any “Big 9” allergen ingredients and/or the allergen warning statement. Prepackaged bags of pretzels are not labeled properly with the name of product, ingredient statement, and distributed by statement. Observed old food residue on the upper cover of the slicer. Food facility does not employ a certified food employee as required. The certification expired in 2020. The facility has 90 days to enroll an employee in a state-recognized food safety course. Observed sponges, paper towels and a strainer in the hand-wash sink.

Turkey Hill Minit Market No. 248, 2 Denver Road, Denver, March 28. Pass. Exposed food preparation observed in pizza area under dirty ventilation ducts, and subject to potential contamination. Nonfood contact shelving above three-bay sink not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil.

Valley Brook Farms, 168 Reading Road, East Earl, Type 3 follow-up, March 28. Pass. No violations.

Columbia Mini Mart, 26 N. Fourth St., Columbia, March 27. Pass. Facility is offering for sale JUST CBD Honey Sticks Just Brands LLC, Hollywood, Florida, that contains an unapproved additive as specified in 21 CFR 170-180 relating to food additives. Such products are under U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulation and at which time CBD is not recognizable as a safe substance to be added to food.

Prince Street Cafe, 15 N. Prince St., Lancaster, follow-up, March 27. Pass. No violations.

Smoke & Chill, 353 Cherry St., Columbia, March 27. Fail. The food facility operator shall be the person in charge or shall designate a person in charge and shall ensure that a person in charge is present at the food facility during all hours of operation. The person in charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this noncompliant inspection. An employee’s open beverage container was observed on the food preparation table; repeat violation, Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, 2023. Observed nine 1-pint bottles of strawberry milk and one half-gallon of whole chocolate milk beyond the sell-by date being offered for sale. Food facility is offering for sale Truemoola Fun Cube Tropical Love, Fruit Punch, and Blueberry Raspberry, Delta 8 and 9 gummies, Riverdale, N.J., contain an unapproved additive as specified in 21 CFR 170-180 relating to food additives. Such products are under U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulation and at which time CBD is not recognizable as a safe substance to be added to food. Cooked chicken was held at 122 F and 129 F in the hot hold cabinet, rather than 135 F or above as required. Observed packaging tape being used to repair a drainage pipe of the three-compartment sink. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration of quaternary sanitizer; repeat violation, April 6 and Oct. 5 and 13, 2023. Observed old food residue and grease, on several plastic food containers, ladles, lids, and whisks, stored as clean on a shelf above the three-compartment sink; repeat violation, April 6, Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, 2023. Observed a residue buildup on the fume hood. Observed old food splatter inside the entire microwave. Food facility has a certified food employee, but a certified food employee was not available during all hours of operation, as evidenced by an inability to talk with the certified food employee during this inspection. Observed filth and dried dirt in the hand-wash sink, indicating nonuse; repeat violation, Sept. 28, 2023. The hand-wash sink in the food preparation area was blocked by a large, stainless-steel table and not accessible at all times for employee use. The hand-wash sink in the food preparation area does not have single use towels, continuous towels, or air-drying device. Observed a container of soap being stored on the shelf next to food equipment above the three-compartment sink.

Acme – Lancaster Distribution Center Cafeteria, 500 Muddy Creek Road, Denver, March 26. Pass. Three-bay sink observed with buildup of oily residue and not cleaned before use, and frequently throughout the day. Assorted containers on drying shelf observed to have food residue and were not clean to sight and touch; removed for cleaning.

C.R. Lapp’s Family Restaurant, 101 Fite Way, Quarryville, March 26. Pass. Observed bulk food dry ingredient storage containers, in the main production area, to not be labeled with the common name of the food. Observed a temperature measuring device for measuring manual warewashing wash and sanitizing water temperatures is available, however is non-operational.

Lancaster Brewing Co., 302 N. Plum St., Lancaster, March 26. Fail. Observed multiple food items in the walk-in refrigeration unit area stored open with no covering. Observed liquor bottles without proper coverings. Date and label food in walk-in refrigeration unit. Repair or replace rusty shelves in food prep area. Observed buildup residue on all equipment under hood system. Observed black residue in bain-marie located in front bar area. Repair or replace floor in front of walk-in refrigeration unit. Repair or replace floor in warewash area.

Noodles & Co. No. 725, 839 E. Main St., Ephrata, March 26. Pass. Food employees observed in prep area not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets or hats that cover all hair including ponytails. Visors do not cover all hair without a hairnet. Exposed food preparation observed under dusty equipment and overhead structures and subject to potential contamination. Assorted containers on the drying shelves and prep area shelves were observed to have food residue and old labels and were not clean to sight and touch. Nonfood contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Observed clean food equipment and/or utensils in dish wash and prep areas, stored wet in a manner that does not allow for draining and/or air-drying (wet-nesting); removed for cleaning.

St. Philip The Apostle Church, 2111 Millersville Pike, Lancaster, March 26. Pass. Observed a small amount of pink residue on the deflector plate in the ice maker.

Bloomfield LC LLC – DBA Little Caesers, 235 Bloomfield Drive, Lititz, follow-up, March 25. Pass. Food Employee observed working with exposed foods with fingernail polish. An employee’s open beverage container (twist-cap variety) was observed on the three-compartment sink. Food employees eating in the back food preparation area as evidenced by observed partially consumed bag of Starbursts. Observed filth and food residue buildup, the wall behind the three-compartment sink, the stainless-steel rack near the three-compartment sink is rusted and dirty, brown grime observed on the inside of the door to the walk-in cooler, old food residue and grime on the storage racks between the hot-holding cabinets. The hand-wash sink in the back near the three-compartment sink was blocked by dough pans and not accessible at all times for employee use.

Hempfield Senior High School, 200 Stanley Ave., Landisville, March 25. Pass. Broccoli cheddar soup was held at 124 F, in the kettle for hot holding, rather than 135 F or above as required. Receiving door located in the kitchen area of the food facility has a gap and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents and other animals. A work order has been placed.

J&J Mofongo Restaurant, 604 Manor St., Lancaster, March 25. Fail. Prepackaged dessert foods are not labeled properly with the name of product, ingredient statement, net weight, distributed-by statement and/or nutritional facts. Nonfood contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil.

Little Britain Store, 10 N. Little Britain Road, Quarryville, March 25. Pass. Observed food employee in main production area, not wearing proper beard cover. Observed raw eggs stored above ready to eat foods in bain-marie; corrected.

The food facility will utilize one bowl of the two-bowl sink located in the same are for their hand-wash sink until the hand-wash sink is repaired on March 26. Observed an aerosol can of insecticide stored on a shelf over the three-compartment sink.
