Somisetty is a seventh grader at Mountain View Middle School in the Cumberland Valley School District. His favorite author is Rick Riordan and he hopes to become a doctor. He won the 2024 Central PA Spelling Bee in round 14 by spelling “aeronautics.”

36 spellers from schools across WITF’s coverage area faced off at the 2024 Central PA Spelling Bee for a coveted spot at the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which will take place in National Harbor, Md. May 26 – June 1, 2024.

The 2024 Central PA Spelling Bee helps to prepare the winning speller for the Scripps National Spelling Bee by providing an on-camera experience, and it provides an opportunity for the spellers to meet each other.

“Participating in the Bee cultivates confidence and poise in public speaking and performance under pressure,” says WITF Central PA Spelling Bee Coordinator, Patrick J. Dennehy. “Moreover, the supportive atmosphere and the opportunity to bond with fellow spellers make the experience both enjoyable and memorable.”
