Delve into Genealogy at WITF’s “Finding Your Roots: A Genealogy Fair”

[HARRISBURG, PA] – WITF, the NPR and PBS member station for the region, is hosting a free genealogy resource fair and preview screening event, “Finding Your Roots: A Genealogy Fair,” on Saturday, April 6 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Whitaker Center for Science and Arts, 222 Market St., Harrisburg. Free registration is available at witf.org/family.

The resource fair begins at 1:00 p.m. and wraps up at 2:15 p.m. Attendees are invited to visit the organization tables to learn about genealogical resources available and how to get started.

At 2:30 p.m., WITF will begin its preview screening of the season 10 finale of PBS’ “Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr.” The episode, titled “Viewers Like You,” explores the family history of Cumberland County resident Megan Robertson.

After the screening, WITF’s Scott LaMar, host of The Spark, will lead a conversation and Q&A with a panel of genealogy experts about how attendees can best begin their genealogy research, and will speak with Robertson about her experience as a guest on “Finding Your Roots.”

“I’m thrilled that it is almost time for me to be able to share the amazing story of my family! I’m grateful to ‘Finding Your Roots’ for selecting me to be a part of the first ever ‘Viewers Like You’ episode,” said Robertson. “You won’t want to miss it!”

“Twelve years ago, ‘Finding your Roots’ premiered on WITF TV,” said Fred Vigeant, WITF vice president and chief audience officer. “It has grown a devoted audience because genealogy is a wonderful mix of history, puzzles and scavenger hunts. We’re excited to bring genealogy resources from across Pennsylvania to Harrisburg for a day of learning, exploration and discovery!”

This event is free and open to the public; free registration is available at witf.org/family. This event is supported by Capital Blue Cross and the York County History Center.

Finding Your Roots” airs on WITF TV on Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. and can be streamed on demand through the PBS or WITF app. “Viewers Like You,” the season 10 finale episode, premieres on April 9.
