Travel back in time to the height of the swinging 60s, where Barbara Parker ventures to take on the male-dominated comedy scene. After being crowned Miss Blackpool, she faces an existential crisis and desires more for her life than to be a forgotten seaside beauty queen. To find her greater purpose, Barbara moves to London to make a name for herself in show business. After a series of disheartening setbacks, Barbara strikes gold when she gets the part in a ground-breaking new sitcom.

Season one of Funny Woman opens with Barbara Parker leaving her life, love, and family in Blackpool to travel to London for her big break in show business. Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, she settles for work as a sales girl at a posh department store. When she is transferred to the perfume section, she meets a wealthy man who invites her to a gala where she meets her would-be manager. She is given the audition of a life-time that lands her the leading role on a career-making sitcom.
