Rural Pennsylvania could lose 6% of population by 2050

Population is aging, young people moving out

Pennsylvania’s rural areas are expected to lose population over the next 27 years or by the year 2050. That’s according to new data from the Center for Rural Pennsylvania.

An aging population coupled with younger people moving away will contribute to the trend, unless something changes.

What needs to change and why is it important for rural areas to maintain their population?
