Kenzo Veron, an eighth grader at Lamberton Middle School in the Carlisle School District, is the winner of the 2023 Central PA Spelling Bee. He has earned an opportunity to compete in the National Scripps Spelling Bee, held May 30 – June 1 in National Harbor, Md.

WITF is happy to announce that Kenzo Veron is the top speller of the 2023 Central PA Spelling Bee.

Kenzo Veron is an eighth grader at Lamberton Middle School in the Carlisle School District. His favorite book series is Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan. He has a dog named Kenji and enjoys basketball with dad, video games, and traveling. He won the 2023 Central PA Spelling Bee in round 13.

35 spellers from 29 different schools in WITF’s coverage area faced off at the 2023 Central PA Spelling Bee for a coveted spot at the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which will take place in National Harbor, Md. May 30 – June 1.

The 2023 Central PA Spelling Bee was the first in-person Bee hosted at the WITF Public Media Center since 2020. An in-person Bee helps to prepare the winner for the National Scripps Spelling Bee by providing an on-camera experience, and it provides an opportunity for the spellers to meet each other.

“After years of coordinating the Bee, I’ve witnessed how important it is to the spellers,” said Central PA Spelling Bee Coordinator Ruth Keim. “It brings many of them out of their shell and broadens their horizons. It can be a life-changing experience for our spellers.”

Find out what Veron’s winning word was on April 1 by watching the 2023 Central PA Spelling Bee on-demand at witf.org/bee or on WITF’s YouTube channel at youtube.com/witforg.

The 2023 Central PA Spelling Bee is supported by The Hershey Company, York College of Pennsylvania, and The Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler Foundation.
