Dauphin County Library expansion brings history and 21st Century together

  • Scott LaMar

Airdate: November 02, 2022

Last month, the Dauphin County Library System held its grand re-opening of the McCormick Riverfront Library and Haldeman Haly House, at front and Walnut Streets in Harrisburg.

The $3.5 million renovation project connected the library with the Haldeman Haly House. That’s where Sarah Haldeman lived. She was the library’s first benefactor when she donated $60,000 that started the library system in 1895.

The new facility also includes the T. Morris Chester Welcome Center named after the African-American journalist from Harrisburg who reported on the Civil War throughout the country.

Karen Cullings, Executive Director, Dauphin County Library System and historian Ken Frew appeared on The Spark Wednesday to talk about the new library.
