  • Christina Zeiders

The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes brings to life the many detectives of late Victorian London who – as the title indicates – were rivals to Sherlock Holmes.

Stream The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes with your WITF Passport login and the PBS Video app. The image above is from season one, episode one, A Message from the Deep Sea.

You’ll be introduced to R. Austin Freeman’s brilliant forensic expert Dr. John Thorndyke, Arthur Morrison’s notorious villain and private inquiry agent Horace Dorrington, William Hope Hodgson’s world-famous ghost hunter Carnacki and Baroness Orczy’s detective Lady Molly of Scotland Yard.

The British anthology mystery television series premiered in 1971. The show was inspired by published anthologies by Hugh Greene.
