There are more than 23,000 electric vehicles registered in Pennsylvania and that number is expected to increase — perhaps substantially in the next decade as the world looks for ways to reduce fossil fuels. The growth spurt in EVs has already begun. There were only 9,700 registered in 2019.

However, much has to be done to make electric vehicles a reliable and convenient form of transportation starting with more charging stations. Penndot has plans to located a charging station along every 50 miles of interstate highway as well in places where everyone has access to them.

WITF’s StateImpact Pennsylvania reporter Rachel McDevitt has been driving an EV for the past few days and asking about what they do well and what’s a challenge. She appears on Tuesday’s Smart Talk with what’s she’s found.
