(Harrisburg) – May 23rd is the 143rd day of 2021, also making it 143 Day in PA.  First established by gubernatorial declaration two years ago, the day is meant to be a day of kindness in honor of Pennsylvania native Fred Rogers.

Fred Rogers regularly used 143 as a code for “I Love You”, based on the number of letters in each word.  He used the number on Mr. Rogers Neighborhood and in real life, where he reportedly maintained his body weight at 143 pounds.

143 Day marks a statewide call to live up to the ideals of Mr. Rogers with residents encouraged to share acts of kindness and good deeds with each other.

In order to reflect on how grateful we are for each other and to promote kind acts today, individuals are encouraged to share on social media using #143DayInPA.

There’s an online #143DayInPA kindness tracker and link to a toolkit which can be found at 143day.dced.pa.gov.
