(Reading) — Authorities say one person was killed in a shooting involving a police officer in Berks County.
County District Attorney John Adams says the shooting was reported at about 2:30 yesterday afternoon at a home in Muhlenberg Township.
A woman called 911 and reported a male with a knife was threatening her. Officers arrived and learned the man had locked himself in the second floor bathroom.
After unlocking the door, they told the man to drop the knife. He refused and one officer deployed his taser, which did not have an effect.
The second officer fired his gun and hit the man in the chest.
The man was taken to the Trauma Unit at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center/Tower Health where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation into the shooting is underway.
