Major traffic delays expected for latest I-83 construction in Dauphin County

  • By Craig Rhodes/WITF

(Harrisburg)  —  The state Department of Transportation is warning Dauphin County motorists of major delays due to the ongoing construction project on I-83.

Beginning Saturday night at 7pm, Penn Dot officials say traffic will be restricted to a single lane in both directions between the exit for Union Deposit Road and the 81-split.

The restrictions will remain in place southbound until Tuesday night, December 22nd and northbound until Wednesday afternoon, December 23rd.

PennDot says there will be major delays and they’re urging motorists to look for alternate routes.

Officials say the restrictions are needed so the contractor can shift traffic to the newly constructed portion of the highway.

The 105-million dollar reconstruction of a 3-mile portion of I-83 is expected to be complete sometime in 2021.
