Republican DeFoor elected Pennsylvania’s auditor general

The GOP controller in Dauphin County outpaced Democrat Nina Ahmad for the statewide position.

(Harrisburg) — Timothy DeFoor has been elected to become auditor general, Pennsylvania’s elected fiscal watchdog.

The Republican outpaced Democrat Nina Ahmad for the statewide position. DeFoor campaigned on his record of spending three decades conducting governmental audits and fraud investigations.

“What an honor, what a pleasure what a privilege,” DeFoor said Friday, reached by cellphone on a golf course. “And once the race is officially called, I’m ready to serve, ready to serve.”

DeFoor, who is Black, will be sworn in in January as the state’s first elected “row officer” of color .

The 58-year-old elected controller in Dauphin County, which includes Harrisburg, touted his experience as making him uniquely qualified for the office. He has spent three decades conducting governmental audits and fraud investigations for the state inspector general, the state attorney general and a large hospital system.

The Green Party candidate for auditor general was Olivia Faison, and the Libertarian was Jennifer Lynn Moore.

Democrat Eugene DePasquale is finishing up his second term, and the job is limited to two terms.
