WITF honored with four Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award nominations

  • Keira McGuire

WITF has been honored with four Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award nominations. These nominations recognize the breadth of WITF’s original productions – from a documentary on country music’s roots in Pennsylvania, to a piece on the history of oppression for people with intellectual disabilities, to a story highlighting a rare butterfly found in a Pennsylvania refuge. The nominations also demonstrate WITF’s desire to preserve history, educate and entertain.

WITF Music Presents: Country Music in Pennsylvania and WITF’s Retro Report: Isolation to Inclusion both demonstrate WITF’s desire to preserve the past. Country Music in Pennsylvania explores country music and its roots in Pennsylvania and features untold stories of people in our region who played an important role in the creation of this uniquely American form of musical storytelling. WITF’s Retro Report: Isolation to Inclusion documents the history of oppression for people with intellectual disability in Pennsylvania and across the nation.

Education has also always been important to WITF. In fact, the station was founded by a group of educators. So, WITF was eager to honor teachers who are making a difference in the lives of their students through the WITF 2019 Teacher Impact Awards. WITF’s production team traveled to seven Pennsylvania counties to highlight teachers who are passionate about what they do.

Finally, WITF understands that sometimes the most interesting stories can be found in the most unusual places. WITF’s Catching Sight of a Rare Butterfly in a Surprising Refuge highlights the orange and black spotted regal fritillary butterfly and the hundreds of people that try to spot it in Pennsylvania every year.

“WITF takes pride in covering diverse topics with care, passion and creativity. These nominations are a testament to the hard-working members of our production team. They work really well together, care about our communities and each other,” said Cara Williams Fry, WITF’s Chief Content Officer.

The Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards are intended to recognize outstanding achievements in television and similar media. The Emmy Awards will be announced on September 19, 2020.
