Central Bucks District closes five schools over coronavirus exposure

The Central Bucks School District closed five schools Friday “out of an abundance of caution” after some individuals in the district were exposed to a confirmed case of the coronavirus.

The district learned of the exposure late Thursday night and posted an announcement on its website.

Central Bucks Superintendent Dr. John Kopicki made the decision after learning that someone from out of state, who now is known to have COVID-19, attended a “recent private gathering” at a Central Bucks residence.

At the time of the visit, it was not known the person had COVID-19. It was confirmed later.

Multiple Central Bucks School District children and staff were present at the event, and their respective schools have been closed.

These five schools will be closed “for at least one day” starting Friday:

• Butler Elementary School
• Central Bucks South High School
• Titus Elementary School
• Tohickon Middle School
• Tamanend Middle School

Those schools in Pennsylvania’s third largest school district will be closed for all students and staff members.

Pennsylvania has no confirmed cases of COVID-19, but on Thursday, New Jersey announced its second case of the coronavirus.
