(Harrisburg) — A man is in custody after midstate police say he pulled a gun on an officer and the officer fired at him.
The Berks County District Attorney’s office says Reading police responded Sunday afternoon to a 911 call that a man was threatening people with a gun.
On the scene, an officer identified a man fitting the suspect’s description. The officer approached the man and ordered him to stop and get on the ground.
The man ran away, and from behind a parked SUV, allegedly drew a gun from his waistband and pointed it at the officer.
The officer shot at the man and missed, hitting the vehicle.
The man, identified as Robert Taylor, 56, of Reading, dropped his gun and ran again. He was stopped by other officers, who searched him and allegedly found crack cocaine and methamphetamine.
Detectives say the recovered handgun had been reported stolen in August.
Taylor is charged with assault, weapons, and drug offenses.
The officer has not been identified.
