LOS ANGELES – The World War I film “1917” has taken home the top honor at the Producers Guild Awards. The Sam Mendes-directed and produced film won the award for theatrical motion picture at Saturday night’s untelevised ceremony at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles.

The Darryl F. Zanuck Award has gone on to win the best picture Oscar 21 out of 30 times. That includes the past two years, with “The Shape of Water” and “Green Book.”

In other categories, “Toy Story 4” took home the animation award, “Fleabag” won the episodic comedy television award and “Chernobyl” collected best limited series.

Several special honors were handed out throughout the evening for their production work, including to Brad Pitt’s production company and Octavia Spencer.
