Saturday’s Winter Weather Outlook

 Ian Sterling for WITF

(Harrisburg)– A Winter Weather Advisory has been posted for the region until 7 p.m. this evening.  The storm is expected to bring snow, sleet and freezing rain today into the evening before changing to all rain.

John Banghoff of the National Weather Service office in State College says the peak of the precipitation should fall between 3 and 7 o’clock this afternoon and evening.  Banghoff estimates 3-6 inches of snow and sleet could accumulate north of Interstate 80, while closer to 1-3 inches is expected south of I-80 today.

While the forecast calls for wind chills as low as 4 above Sunday night and Monday, Banghoff says that could be followed by another round of milder weather midweek and maybe some precipitation, perhaps rain approaching from the south, next weekend.  He adds there’s still enough mild air around to make a deep freeze unlikely anytime soon.
