(Harrisburg) — A midstate-based grocery chain plans to expand its footprint in the commonwealth with a $114 million investment.
Giant Food Stores, based in Carlisle, Cumberland County, says the money will go to create an ecommerce fulfillment center, open two new stores, and remodel 35 existing stores over the next 18 months.
The Giant Direct fulfillment center is slated for construction in Philadelphia and is expected to create 200 jobs.
Giant opened its first ecommerce hub in Lancaster in February last year. Since then, the number of Giant Direct grocery pick-up locations climbed from zero to 125.
One of the new stores is coming to 6301 Grayson Road in Swatara Township, Dauphin County and should create 150 new jobs. The other will be built in Monroe County.
GIANT employs more than 27,000 people statewide.
