SongwritingWith:Soldiers is a nonprofit organization that operates from a simple principle – pair veterans and active-duty service members with professional songwriters to craft songs about their military experiences. With a focus on collaboration and building trust, this innovative program offers a unique path to helping soldiers, their families, communities and our nation cope with the aftermath of combat duty and the challenges in returning home.

PBS and SongwritingWith:Soldiers collaborated on this concert special celebrating music’s power to heal and bring diverse people together.

Featuring award-winning and chart-topping songwriters include Bonnie Bishop, Gary Burr, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Jay Clementi, Radney Foster, Mary Gauthier, James House, Will Kimbrough, Georgia Middleman, Gary Nicholson, Maia Sharp, and Darden Smith.

The creative songwriting process is life-changing for participants as it offers a unique outlet to tell their stories, rebuild trust, release pain and forge new bonds. These collaborative works of war, reflection and redemption are transformative and demanding.

Watch Songwriting with Soldiers on WITF Friday October 25 at 10:00pm.  The program will also be available via the PBS Video app.
