Celebrate Sesame Street 50 Years and Counting with WITF

(Harrisburg, PA) — Sunny days are on their way as WITF celebrates Sesame Street 50 Years and Counting. WITF invites the community to this free, fun event at the WITF Public Media Center Saturday, September 28, 2019. Pre-registered families will enjoy a Meet & Greet with Walkaround Super Grover 2.0 and a free digital family photo to commemorate the day. The celebration offers many engaging activities, including designing a rubber ducky, counting to 50 (Ah! Ah! Aaah!), creating recycled art that Oscar the Grouch would love, and making a Letter of the Day.

“Sesame Street is such a significant part of all of our learning,” said WITF’s Education Director Debbie Riek.  “Many of us learned to count with the Count, to read along with Big Bird, to think about and through hard things by watching the characters do just that. Sesame Street can often be a child’s first classroom, one that is warm and welcoming, inclusive and educational.”

From 9am to 2pm, Sesame Street 50 Years and Counting offers opportunities to learn how to grow stronger, smarter and kinder. Families must pre-register at witf.org/events for a timed family pass to meet and have a photo taken with Walkaround Super Grover 2.0. A limited number of timed passes are available and will be sent to registrants via email prior to the event.

“We are delighted to host Sesame Street’s 50th anniversary celebration in our community,” said Ron Hetrick President and CEO of WITF. “Sesame Street’s iconic brand has been a staple of many of our lives – we all have a favorite character, episode, or memory to share! We are proud to be associated with this program that has created a legacy of inclusivity by binding our community together.”

The first 500 children will receive a special Sesame Street gift to take home.  This celebration is made possible thanks in part to our sponsors:  Aetna Better Health of Pennsylvania, Agora Cyber Charter School, Penn State Health and Wegmans.
