Midstate county has highest unemployment rate in Pa.

(Harrisburg) — A midstate county left reeling by the recent loss of nearly 1,000 jobs has the highest unemployment rate in the commonwealth.
Snyder County ranks highest in joblessness among Pennsylvania’s 67 counties, according to the latest figures from the state Department of Labor and Industry.
Its unemployment rate was 6.2 percent in June, up from a rate of four percent a year ago. Forest County in western Pennsylvania also saw a rate of 6.2 percent unemployment in June.
Snyder County-based cabinetry maker Wood-Mode, Inc. abruptly laid off 938 workers in May, when a deal to sell the company fell through.
The company’s new owner recently announced plans to hire back 200 to 500 people.
The midstate is also home to counties with some of the lowest unemployment rates.
Cumberland and Adams counties tied for the second-lowest unemployment rate with 2.8 percent.
Lancaster County tied for fourth place with Centre County at 2.9 percent.
