(Harrisburg) — A midstate day-of-giving event is setting ambitious goals for its second year.

Give Local York starts at midnight Friday, May 3rd.

The first event raised just under $1.5 million for 211 nonprofits in 24 hours.

This year, Executive Director Meagan Given said they hope to raise $3 million for 320 participating organizations.

She said while York County is home to just under 450,000 people, data from last year shows more than 2 million people benefit from these nonprofits.

“That also shows that we have a lot of York County residents who are benefitting from multiple organizations and it also shows that sort of cross-sector and the collaborative work of these organizations,” Given said.

The missions of the organizations range from arts and education to mental health to animal rescue.

A new feature on the event’s website will allow people to sign up as a volunteer as well as donate to their favorite groups.

“We’ve really learned money, of course, is important and everybody needs money, but these organizations also really need the support of volunteers to continue to do the work of their mission,” Given said.

Giving events are scheduled across the county throughout the day, with a count-down celebration at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts starting at 7 p.m.
