Billboard designed by midstate teen urges drivers not to text

(Harrisburg) — A new billboard designed by an Adams County high school freshman warns drivers against texting while behind the wheel.
Biglerville student Abigail Reckard came up with the winning submission for the Center for Traffic Safety’s annual billboard design contest.
The center works to reduce traffic crashes and fatalities and holds the contest as a way to get teens thinking about highway safety.
Reckard drew two cars just after a head-on collision with the words “Was it worth it? Don’t text and drive.”
Traffic safety specialist Missy Sweitzer said the message resonates.

“Oftentimes people are asking that question after it’s too late. And it doesn’t just apply to teen drivers–it applies to every driver that’s out there on the road.”
The billboard is along Route 15 South, just before the Route 234 exit. It will stay up through the end of April.
There were more than 15,000 distracted driving crashes on Pennsylvania roadways in 2017.
