(Harrisburg) — Lancaster County’s successful Extraordinary Give celebrated a new record this year, raising more than $10 million for area nonprofits in 24 hours.

Now, another midstate county is ramping up for its second annual charitable day of giving.

Organizers with Give Local York  say the theme for 2019’s event is “bigger and better.”

This year’s event raised over $1.4 million for 211 nonprofits, surpassing the goal of $1 million.

Executive Director Meagan Given said they faced a learning curve in the first year.

“Last year we were really, sort of, building the airplane while we were flying. But now that we have a successful event under our belts, we know what works and what didn’t work,” she said.

Given said challenges from the inaugural event included educating the community about what a “give day” was and teaching nonprofits how to get involved. In the lead up to the next event, Give Local York and its partners will be offering webinar training sessions for interested nonprofits.

Next year’s goal is $3 million for 300 organizations.

Given said she would love to see the event turn into a holiday for the county.

“I would love to see this eventually grow into a day where employers are letting their employees leave work early to go do a community service project or to attend a give day party,” Given said. “And to really just encompass the entire county for one day where we all feel proud to be Yorkers.”

Give Local York is scheduled for May 3rd, 2019.
