Midstate activists prepare to promote progressives to county offices
(Harrisburg) — Activists in Lancaster County are hoping to fill county-wide elected offices with progressive candidates
Keystone Progress recently partnered with the national group The Incorruptibles to train people in grassroots organizing.
Incorruptibles director Anna Callahan co-founded the group after working on Senator Bernie Sander’s 2016 Democratic presidential campaign.
She said the training is based around the idea that there is one solution to the country’s systemic problems.
“For our government to be filled with unwavering representatives of the people, and not just the rich, who fight for economic, racial, social, and environmental justice and that that is what our government should be,” Callahan said.
She said their organizing model is different because it focuses energy on an entire electoral body, not one candidate.
“In most of the cities that we’ve gone to, that electoral body is the city council. And all the strategy is around how can we get a majority of people on the city council, rather than how can we get this one person elected,” Callahan said.
The organizers are hoping to elect progressives to the Lancaster County Commission and District Attorney’s office in next year’s election.
