Visitor to state prison caught with marijuana
(Harrisburg) — A visitor to a Pennsylvania state prison has been arrested after allegedly trying to smuggle marijuana into the Lycoming County facility.
The Department of Corrections said a man was being processed for a visit with his daughter at the State Correctional Institution at Muncy Tuesday morning, when security staff found a sandwich bag containing a leafy substance in his outer garment.
A state trooper arrived and conducted a field test of the substance, confirming it to be marijuana.
The man was taken into custody by state police, who will determine whether to file criminal charges.
Under a new policy, any visitor who is caught attempting to introduce contraband into prison visiting rooms will be suspended indefinitely from visiting any Department of Corrections facility.
The incident follows a 12 day lockdown of the state prison system, which aimed to stop the flow of drugs into facilities.
