A daring 1937 sit-down strike put Milton Hershey’s thriving Chocolate empire in an unwanted national spotlight – until strikebreakers organized in Lebanon County put an end to it.

The chocolate magnate had always prided himself on treating his employees well, and he generally did, providing above-average wages, and pensions and health insurance plans that were ahead of their time,
