With rain continuing to fall on the midstate, flooding is expected to continue through the end of the week.

Major flooding has occured along a stretch of Swatara Creek in Dauphin and Lebanon counties. The National Weather Service observed the water cresting at 16.07 feet — more than 9 feet above flood stage — near Hershey and 17.1 feet near Harper Tavern. Water has entered multiple homes and closed roadways in the affected areas.

The Susquehanna River and its larger tributaries are expected to flood Thursday or Friday.

As of 11am Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said 60 state roads are closed in Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon and York counties due to flooding. Last night there were about half as many. That number doesn’t include local roads.

Officials urge drivers to be cautious as they travel, and warn never to drive on flooded roads.
