In campaign video, Gov. Tom Wolf helps tattooed John Fetterman buy a tie at York Galleria

(Undated) — Tom Wolf wears a dark suit, blue shirt and red tie.

His running mate, John Fetterman, wears jeans and one of his trademarks: A black, double-pocket shirt. It’s button down, but casual.

They are seen sitting across from each other in a new campaign video. Wolf tells Fetterman he’s looking forward to working with him to change Harrisburg.

“Now there’s, there’s one thing, um,” says Wolf, Pennsylvania’s incumbent Democratic governor.

“One thing?” asks Fetterman, who last month won the Democratic nomination to be lieutenant governor.

“Yeah, you’re going to be presiding over the Senate. And to preside over the Senate, apparently, uh, you have to wear a necktie,” Wolf says.

“A tie?” Fetterman asks.

“Yeah, that’s, that’s what I hear,” Wolf says. “And they’re really strict about that. So how about if we go out. I’ll buy you a necktie.”

Then the two head out, and the seeming odd couple provide some campaign-themed comedy.

• There’s a musical cue reminiscent of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” a TV comedy.
• Fetterman, who is 6-foot-8, struggles to fit inside Wolf’s Jeep.
• “John, you know, Scott Wagner’s going around saying he’s a cross between Rambo and Dirty Harry — which one of those scares you more?” Wolf asks Fetterman during the ride. Fetterman doesn’t reply with a joke of his own. Instead, he laughs.
• At the York Galleria’s Boscov’s, Fetterman puts on a coat that’s too small, struggles to tie a striped necktie and picks out a black shirt for Wolf to wear.

The video ends with them standing next to Wolf’s Jeep.

“So, John, that was really great. Let’s do that again some time,” Wolf says.

“Yeah … maybe next time governor, we can get you some ink,” says Fetterman, who is famous for his tattoos.

Wolf looks down and away.

“Yeah, yeah,” he says as the campaign logo roles.

If you’re wondering how much the tie cost, the video and a news release from the campaign didn’t say. Ditto for the black shirt. And campaign spokeswoman Beth Melena didn’t say when asked.

Wolf, a former York County businessman, is up for re-election this year. Fetterman is also from York County. He graduated from Central York High School and went on to become mayor of Braddock, outside Pittsburgh
