Man identified in Lancaster County police-involved shooting
(Harrisburg) — Officials have released the identity of a man killed in an officer-involved shooting outside a Lancaster County police station.
The district attorney’s office says the man is 65-year-old John Simson, of East Petersburg.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
Prosecutors say Simson arrived at the Manheim Township police station Tuesday afternoon armed with a shotgun and fired at least two shots, including one at himself.
After repeated calls to stop, one officer fired a single shot. No officers were injured.
The DA’s office is not providing information on a possible motive for Simson engaging police, but prosecutors note he was recently charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of a child, indecent assault of a child, unlawful contact with a minor, and corruption of a minor.
The office is investigating whether the police use of force was justified.

(Lancaster) — Authorities say a man who fired a shotgun outside a police station in Lancaster County was shot and killed by an officer.
Spokesman Brett Hambright of the Lancaster County district attorney’s office said the man arrived at the Manheim Township police station with the shotgun just before 3:00 p.m. Tuesday.
He said the man fired the shotgun at least twice, and in response, an officer shot and killed him.
The county coroner will do an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
The district attorney’s office will make a determination on the police use of force, which is standard procedure.
The name of the man, a county resident, wasn’t released pending notification of relatives.
