(Harrisburg) — Vaping burst onto the scene several years ago as an alternative to smoking, but as more and more health concerns arise, the state may be looking to restrict vaping, at least for one age group.

During a confirmation hearing for Acting Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine, state northeastern P-A Senator Lisa Baker asked the doctor about reports she’s heard that vaping is becoming popular in high schools.

“We would absolutely support outlawing vaping for those under 18 and we could discuss whether that’s 21 or 18,” Levine said.

Dr. Levine says vaping has proven to be less of a smoking deterrent and more of a bridge to tobacco use.

She also questioned claims that vaping is helping adult smokers kick the habit.
