Update: U.S. Marshal killed while serving a warrant in Harrisburg

(Harrisburg) — A U.S. Marshal from York County was shot and killed this morning while serving an arrest warrant in Harrisburg.
His name has not been released.
Two other law enforcement personnel assigned to the U.S. Marshals Task Force were shot and wounded. One is an officer with the Harrisburg Police Department and the other is from the York City police force.
The York officer is being treated at Penn State Hershey Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. The Harrisburg officer’s condition is unknown.
There were reports of shots fired around 6:10 a.m. in the Harrisburg neighborhood around South 18th and Mulberry streets.
Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo says one person was shot by police, but couldn’t speak about that person’s condition.
“This was part of a U.S. Marshal’s Task Force that was involved in a warrant service this morning that resulted in the use of force,” Chardo said during a brief news conference around 9:45 a.m.
Officers clearing the residence say the shooting suspect was inside.
The officer from Harrisburg was wounded before returning fire, critically injuring the shooter.

No other information about the gunman’s condition has been released.
Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse issued a statement, confirming the deputy marshal’s death.
“Harrisburg mourns the loss this morning of a U.S. Marshall who died protecting our residents. While serving a warrant as part of the U.S. Marshall’s task force, three officers were shot, including a Harrisburg police officer, who was wounded, bravely returned fire and critically injured the gunman,” he said. “No words can adequately express the sadness we feel at this moment as we contemplate the loss of yet another law enforcement officer in the line of duty. I extend my sincerest condolences to the family of the slain U.S. Marshall, to his colleagues and to all law enforcement officers who risk their lives each day to protect and to serve our city and our nation.”
An investigation into the incident is underway.
“There are significant amount of moving parts to something like this. Numerous agencies involved — Harrisburg City, Pennsylvania State Police, U.S. Marshals, FBI. There’s been incredible cooperation this morning,” said David Freed, who is the U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
More details are expected to be released at a press conference at 2:00 p.m. this afternoon.
