Police allege Aignee Nicole Freeland, 23, had an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old female student.

(Dover) — Police have arrested Dover Area High School’s junior varsity basketball coach, charging her with institutional sexual assault, according to a Northern York County Regional Police.

Police allege Aignee Nicole Freeland, 23, of the first block of West Maple Street, York, had an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old female student and basketball player.

The charges come after an unexplained absence by Freeland on the sidelines during last week’s Dover-Spring Grove game.

Officers say Dover Area School District notified them last month of the allegations against the junior varsity coach, who was immediately suspended.

Officers say the girl’s cellphone showed numerous contacts, including 18 video calls.
Northern Regional Police Lieutenant David Lash says investigators are trying to determine “if additional victims exist.”

At 9:00 a.m. today, police arrested Freeland at her home and took her before District Judge David Eschbach, who set her bail at $100,000.

She faces one count of institutional sexual assault and one count of unlawful contact with a minor – sexual offenses.

Freeland is also to have no contact with the victim and no contact with anyone under the age of 18.

The school district says Freeland was a coach but not a teacher and the district doesn’t condone “such actions by its employees.”
