Drivers will pay more at the pump this Christmas
(Harrisburg) — Those hitting the road to see family and friends over the Christmas holiday might think they’re getting a deal at the pump this Christmas.
But, Dan McTeague, a senior petroleum analyst with the price-tracking website Gas Buddy dot com, said while gas prices have dropped a little since Thanksgiving, they are way up over this point last year.
“Prices, generally speaking, have risen almost 24 cents a gallon, higher than they were going into Christmas 2016,” he said.
In the midstate, the average gallon of regular gasoline will cost you $2.65.
McTeague said prices typically drop again in January, but demand has been high lately.
“So until that abates or subsides, it looks like higher prices into 2018 will continue be the story for gasoline and diesel prices,” McTeague said.
People driving from the midstate to western Pennsylvania or the Philadelphia area will pay more for the return trip home.
Those areas are averaging 10 to twenty cents more per gallon.
