Changes on the way for standardized testing in PA schools
(Harrisburg) — Big changes are in store when it comes to standardized testing for school students in Pennsylvania.
Governor Tom Wolf says the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment will be two weeks next school year instead of three and the test will be given later in the year.
Wolf says the changes are in response to concerns of students, parents and teachers.
“And in listening, one of the things that came through loud and clear was that we were spending too much time in our schools on testing. And so we were learning to the tests, we were teaching to the tests, and that’s not the way education is supposed to go,” Wolf said.
Standardized testing changes this school year include two fewer testing days, the removal of math and language arts sections and not as many science questions.
