Human sex trafficking is happening in Pennsylvania
(Harrisburg) — While most people might think of human trafficking as something that happens overseas, a recent decision to try two people on human trafficking charges in Norristown, Montgomery County shows the crime is occurring here in Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape spokesperson Kristen Houser says sex trafficking of adults and minors in Pennsylvania is something often hidden in plain sight.
Houser says victims, who are often runaways, undocumented or living on the edge of poverty, might have particular tattoos or branding, repetitive injuries and malnourishment.
Houser urges anyone who suspects someone is a victim of human or sex trafficking to contact the National Human Trafficking hotline.
“The National Human Trafficking Hotline is 1-888-373-7888, or you can text the words be free, which is 233733,” Houser said
Houser says its often very difficult for victims of human and sex trafficking to escape.
