Hillary Clinton stumps for universal health care in central Pa. appearance

(Danville) — Former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is warning future progress on health care is at risk.
Serving as the keynote speaker at Geisinger Health’s national health symposium in Danville, Montour County, she stumped for universal health care.
In a question-and-answer session with Geisinger’s president, she says “it’s heartbreaking” to see how much better off Americans would be with universal care.
A year after her stunning eleciton loss, Clinton didn’t mention the president by name, but says, “toxic politics” threaten to prevent any bipartisan solutions.
“We’re living right now at a time when evidence and reason are somehow considered our adverseries,” she told the crowd. “There is no such thing as an alternative fact. There just isn’t.”
Clinton says, while the Affordable Care Act isn’t perfect, efforts to kill it are costing taxpayers money and risking their health.
The former Secretary of State and New York U.S. Senator also called out the federal government for not yet funding the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
Clinton said without federal funds, some states may have to shut down CHIP, which provides health insurance for children whose parents earn too much to qualify for Medicaid but who may still struggle financially.
Former Vermont Governor Howard Dean and Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf also spoke at the invitation-only symposium.
