UPDATE: 200 Pa. Guard soldiers to be deployed to assist with Harvey relief

(Annville) — Another 200 Pennsylvania National Guard troops are expected to be deployed to Texas today to join Harvey relief efforts.
Over the weekend, 10 Guard soliders departed in two CH-47 Chinook helicopters from Muir Army Airfield at Fort Indiantown Gap and flew to Grand Prairie airport near Dallas.
The Wolf administration says they will integrate with the thousands of National Guard members and first responders already assisting efforts in the wake of Harvey.
The aircraft and crew may be used for delivering things like food and water to stranded people and providing emergency transportation for those in need.
“Our thoughts are with the residents of Texas and all those impacted as they cope with the after effects of this devastating storm,” said Governor Tom Wolf. “I’m proud of our National Guard and first responders who are able to offer support to the citizens of Texas. We’re ready and willing to offer additional support as needed.”
The 10 Pennsylvania National Guard soldiers will join six Pennsylvania Air National Guard Airmen, who already deployed earlier this week.
“Our Guardsmen have joined efforts with numerous other states to serve our fellow citizens in Texas,” said Pennsylvania Adjutant General Major General Tony Carrelli. “This is what we train for. This is why America has a National Guard. The Pennsylvania National Guard stands ready to support our commonwealth and nation whenever and wherever we are needed.”
The PA National Guard anticipates sending more than 200 more guardsmen to assist with relief efforts through the weekend.
