House bill would limit airspace for drones
(Harrisburg) — A bill that passed the state House Judiciary Committee last week targets those who use drones to take video in places where privacy should be observed.
The bill, from western Pennsylvania State Representative Jeff Pyle, cited examples of people being filmed in their yards by hovering drones as an example of why the state needs to crack down on the technology.
He says it won’t impact filming in public.
“This bill seeks to protect the privacy of your backyard. That’s it. If you’re on public land, fly all you want. If you’re in a state forest, go right ahead. That’s fine. You’re on public lands. If you’re flying it down the street to this building that’s on fire,.. you’re within the law, you’re fine,” he said.
But when it comes to backyards, they would be off-limits.
Pyle cited an incident in Kentucky where a man shot down a drone that was filming his teenage daughter’s pool party.
