(Harrisburg) — Penn State Children’s Hospital says both children attacked by a dog in Lancaster last week have been released from care.

In a statement, the hospital says Charlie Warfel, 5, was discharged Tuesday evening. His sister, two-year-old Ruby, was discharged on June 22nd.

The Associated Press reported the children’s mother was getting them out of the family’s minivan June 19th when a pit bull terrier burst through a backyard fence and mauled the kids. Charlie and Ruby suffered pucture wounds to their faces from the dog’s bites.

The mother wrote on a fundraising page for her children’s medical costs that both underwent hours of surgery.

Lancaster police say the dog will be euthanized.

The family has asked that the media and general public respect their wishes for privacy.
