State officials stress safety for thrill-seekers this summer

(Stroudsburg, PA) — With the summer season underway, state officials are encouraging Pennsylvanians to take the proper precautions before jumping on a roller coaster or heading down a water slide.
If you’re hoping to spend some time in an amusement park this summer, Pennsylvania is a good place to be.
The Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Ride and Measurement Standards oversees more than 9-thousand amusement rides and attractions – more than any other state or foreign country.
Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding recently visited Kalahari indoor water park in the Poconos to offer a few reminders for thrill-seekers this summer.
“Be alert. Know the surroundings. Here, a couple of unique things, with all the moisture and water, be alert of your surroundings. We also want folks to be smart about whether that’s the right ride or the right activity for you,” Redding said.
When at a park or fair, you should check to see if the ride has a Pennsylvania registration, and always follow ride instructions and boarding restrictions before hopping on.
Stop riding when you start to feel tired and stay hydrated to reduce your risk of illness. Children should always be supervised by an adult.
