(Harrisburg) — An officer in the Pennsylvania National Guard is accused of soliciting sex from a minor who told him she was 14 years old.
State Attorney General Josh Shapiro’s office says 51-year-old Joseph Witmer of Hummelstown, Dauphin County, is charged with five felony counts, including unlawful contact with a minor.
Witmer is a chief warrant officer in the Pennsylvania National Guard, based at Fort Indiantown Gap.
Shapiro alleges that Witmer recently posted online seeking a teen.
Prosecutors say an undercover investigator posing as a 14 year old girl reached out to Witmer, and he sent more and more sexually explicit messages.
Authorities say Witmer arranged to meet the girl, and was arrested after agents saw him arrive at the location Sunday night.
He is free on $125,000 bail.
