McKinsey report criticized at state budget hearings

(Harrisburg) — It’s called the McKinsey Report and it received a lot of attention during recent legislayive budget hearings in Harrisburg.

During those hearings, which played out over the past 3 weeks, lawmakers on both the House and Senate Appropriations Committees questioned the need for the McKinsey Report.

The Wolf Administration spent $1.8 million for a consulting firm to compile the report with recommendations on how to cut state spending.

The irony was not lost on State Representative Jerry Knowles when questioning state Budget Secretary Randy Albright.

“I have all the confidence in the world, in the people that work in this building, and there is no doubt in my mind that they could have done what the McKinsey Report did.  I just feel that it’s money that could have been better spent,” Knowles said.

So far, the $1.8 million 6-week contract has bought a 79-page report of potential cost savings from McKinsey & Company.
