Penn State players sing the alma mater after winning an NCAA Division I college football game Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at Beaver Stadium. Penn State defeated Maryland 38-14.

(State College) — Penn State faces one of its toughest tests of the season tonight when the second-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes invade Beaver Stadium.

It’s the second top-five team the Lions have faced this season.  A month ago Penn State traveled to Michigan and got pounded by the third-ranked Wolverines 49-10.

Since that embarrassment, the Lions have shown improvement in wins over Minnesota and Maryland.

The offense, led by quarterback Trace McSorley, has been operating with more consistency.

“We’ve done pretty well on offense to this point, averaging at least 30 points a game I think.  We’re kind of still scraping the surface.  I mean we’re six games into a brand new offense.  Definitely enough time for us to be comfortable and know what we’re doing, but there are still some things that we need to clean up,” McSorley said.

Ohio State has won the last four meetings against Penn State and they have won their last 20 consecutive road games.

Penn State has a 4-0 record at home this season.

The Buckeyes are favored by three touchdowns.

Penn State will honor the 1986 National Championship team at halftime.  The group is celebrating the 30th anniversary of their 12-0 season that culminated with a thrilling win over the Miami Hurricanes in the Fiesta Bowl.

A huge White Out crowd is expected for the game which kicks off at 8pm.
