Post-VP debate, Pence swings through midstate

(Grantville) — Fresh off his well-received debate performance, GOP vice presidential nominee Mike Pence made a stop in central Pennsylvania, holding a nighttime rally at the Grantville Volunteer Fire Company in Dauphin County.

Over 800 people crowded into the firehouse to hear Pence.

Volunteer Greg Dovey was checking them in. He said even though the event location was relatively out of the way, the crowd was eclectic.

“We have people from western Pennsylvania, including Somerset County,” he said. “We have people from Maryland, and I met a gentleman from West Monroe, Louisiana with his Duck Dynasty cap.”

In his speech, Pence derided political correctness to an enthusiastic audience, and reminded them that Hillary Clinton once referred to a portion of Trump supporters as a “basket of deplorables.”

“You cannot lead people that you loathe,” he said. “Hillary Clinton’s contempt for the American people is one more reason why she should be disqualified from ever serving as president of the United States.”

Pence also referenced his debate success and criticized Clinton VP Tim Kaine’s conduct.

“My counterpart was serving up…an avalanche of insults,” he said. “Did you catch all that? Kind of hard for me to keep up with.”

During the debate, Kaine quoted Trump verbatim several times. Pence denied multiple statements his running mate had made on record.

Pence’s visit comes on the heels of Trump’s stop in Lancaster County last week. This isn’t Pence’s last stop in the area either. He’s appearing in Gettysburg and Johnstown today, before heading to Ohio.

Hillary Clinton also rallied in Harrisburg recently and her running mate campaigned in South Philadelphia yesterday.
