Midstate nonprofit aims to boost fundraising as state dollars fall short

(Carlisle) — A midstate nonprofit is working to boost its fundraising efforts after years of failing to meet demand for services by relying on state dollars.

The Arc of Cumberland and Perry Counties calculates that about 250 people aren’t getting the help they need.

To try to expand its services, the nonprofit is creating a foundation.

The goal?

To raise more money, but also more awareness of how it helps the community.

The Arc of Cumberland and Perry Counties serves about 2,000 people every year, providing residential services, day programs and vocational training.

And it runs an early education center in Perry County.

The group’s Adrienne Williams says there’s a lot of need in the community.

“So the money will go towards all of our programs and services as our board members for the foundation see fit,” says Williams.

Williams and The Arc’s development director say many people aren’t aware of the nonprofit’s services.

They are confident if the foundation raises awareness, it will also spark donations.

With state funding largely flat and more and more need for services, the nonprofit says it believes forming a foundation is a necessary move.
